"Spinners" are Courtney's signature images. Created with an experimental 35mm film camera, these panoramic images offer a unique window into the natural world. While panoramas are often of a horizontal landscape, Courtney was drawn to the beauty of the world shown in vertical slivers.

 

In terms of creating the image, you never you what you're going to get. As the camera's head spins, it pulls the film through the camera, past the open shutter. This allows for perspective warping, contrasting areas of sharp and soft, and can allow for a complete wrap around of the scene. Once a roll is complete, the film is processed and Courtney scans each scene in by hand, and they are then printed digitally.
